ABSTRACT

Computer and network security is a process with which to improve quality of service, reduce liability, and maximize the utility of available resources toward the mission-based ends of your organization.

Our objective is to help participants:

Toward these ends, we will: This interactive discussion between the audience and speaker will define and clarify key concepts of computer and network security. Using the Internet as a backdrop, it is designed to be a prime an administrator or decision-maker to begin to address technical, policy, and end-user solutions to security issues in Internet computing environments.

This material requires about 75 minutes. It is written for a general audience, but will be of special interest to individuals with technical implementation or technical policy interests.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

William D. Yang is a systems and network security specialist, working with New Initiatives at the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC).

He is currently the lead system administrator of the Greater Columbus Free-Net, bringing Internet-based community access and information services to over 20,000 registered users in central Ohio Bill is also the technical manager of WORKsource, an Internet-based workforce development tool that provides a centralized repository of job and training information for use by community service organizations and county, city, and state government agencies to improve job placement and training services in Columbus and Franklin County.

Bill is a founding member of the Aegis Network Security Group, which fosters cooperation and information sharing between law enforcement, computer and IT security professionals in the central Ohio area, and is a founding trustee of the National Infragard Corporation, a private not-for-profit coalition that has partnered with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to protect the critical infrastructures of the United States.
