ABSTRACT
Computer and network security is a process with which to improve
quality of service, reduce liability, and maximize the utility of
available resources toward the mission-based ends of your
organization.
Our objective is to help participants:
- Quantify "computer security"
- Assess basic threats for appropriate risk management
- Provide a basic working method to manage network security.
Toward these ends, we will:
- Discuss common risks and threats in Internetworked environments
- Learn basic principles of system and network security
- Examine the elements of a successful computer security policy
- Balance security against other mission-critical interests.
This interactive discussion between the audience and speaker will
define and clarify key concepts of computer and network
security. Using the Internet as a backdrop, it is designed to be a
prime an administrator or decision-maker to begin to address
technical, policy, and end-user solutions to security issues in
Internet computing environments.
This material requires about 75 minutes. It is written for a general
audience, but will be of special interest to individuals with
technical implementation or technical policy interests.
